Renee Stern is a seventh grader who has recently started attending the same school as Danny Partridge. They're both in Mrs. Carlysle's English class, but Renee doesn't pay much attention to him and doesn't remember his name. Danny tries to talk to her, but it soon becomes apparent that they don't have much in common. But when Mrs. Carlysle asks all the kids who will be absent for Purim to raise their hands, Renee and Danny both do so. Renee and Danny both go to the Purim bazaar at Temple Aaron, where Renee introduces Danny to Ben Stern and Mrs. Stern and Danny does his best to pretend he knows anything about Judaism. That Thursday night, the Partridge Family performs at a temple party for the benefit of underprivileged children. Renee introduces her parents to all the other Partridges. The next day, Danny drops by the Sterns' house. Renee asks him if he wants to listen to records, but he says he has to talk to Ben. The next Sabbath, the Partridges are invited to dinner at the Sterns' house. Danny finally admits that he pretended to be Jewish so Renee would go out with him. The Sterns aren't angry at Danny and are glad they made some new friends.
