Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque is a Partridge Family song.
In real life[]
The song was written by Tony Romeo. According to Romeo, it was based on a real-life incident when he met a young runaway. It was one of the first three songs he submitted for The Partridge Family, the others being I Think I Love You and Morning Rider on the Road.[1] However, in June 1971, 15-year-old fan Jackie Williams claimed to be the uncredited lyricist, saying she wrote the poem in 1970 after a fight with her mother and submitted it in a contest run by a teen magazine to have a song recorded for the first Partridge Family album. She said that David Cassidy said in a television interview that he had received 50,000 submissions and recorded eight.[2] However, no information about this contest can be found anywhere except in that one article. David Cassidy's voice was sped up slightly to make him sound more youthful. The song can be found on The Partridge Family Album. It inspired the plot of the episode Road Song.
On the series[]
In Whatever Happened to the Old Songs? Fred Renfrew sings the song while playing his mandolin as his audition to join the Partridge Family's act.
In Road Song, the song is used as background music while the family is searching for Maggie Newton, and later when they chase her down outside Kumquist.
