Marvin is the editor of the San Pueblo High School paper. He has a crush on Laurie Partridge, but expresses his feelings by being pointlessly mean to her. When the school paper runs a celebrity auction, Laurie plans to auction off her ballet slippers, but Danny Partridge accidentally gives Marvin her diary instead. Danny and Keith Partridge ask Marvin for the diary back, but Marvin refuses to hand it over. Then Laurie tries to talk to Marvin, but Marvin tells her he's going to publish her diary in the school paper, and also insults her for being skinny. Eventually Shirley Partridge confronts Marvin and asks him why he's so mean to Laurie. Marvin admits that it's because he likes her. Shirley talks him into giving the diary back. Shirley and Marvin go to the school to pick up the diary, only to find that Keith, Laurie, and Danny are already there, having broken in to steal the diary back. Marvin asks Laurie out, and she accepts. Marvin attends the Partridge Family's next show, where they play It's One of Those Nights (Yes, Love).
