I'm On the Road is a Partridge Family song.
In real life[]
The song was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, originally as a prospective theme song.[1] Tom Bahler sings lead on the version that was officially released and used on the show. That version can be found on The Partridge Family Album. However, at least three other versions of the track were recorded, including at least one with David Cassidy. A version that combines Cassidy's vocals with the official version can be found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tcg2pCgToT0
On the series[]
In Whatever Happened to the Old Songs? an instrumental version of "I'm On the Road" is used as background music while Fred Renfrew drives after the Partridge bus. Later in the episode, the family is shown playing the end of the song onstage while Fred sings along.
In See Here, Private Partridge! the family records "I'm On the Road" in the studio for their first album, then listens to the playback.
