Dina Firmly is a new student at San Pueblo High School. Keith Partridge is attracted to her, but Dina won't have anything to do with him because Laurie Partridge has told her about his womanizing reputation. When someone calling himself "Onely" starts writing to Laurie's advice column claiming to be a friendless orphan who lives in a tar paper shack, Laurie decides (with encouragement from Keith) to introduce Dina to Onely in the hopes that they can be friends. When Laurie realizes that Keith actually wrote Onely's letters as part of a scheme to get Dina to date him, she tells Dina about it, and they come up with a plan to get Keith to meet Dina in a diner, then expose him as Onely in front of a crowd of other kids. Keith is humiliated, but admits to the deception. Dina is impressed that Keith would have the nerve to say that in front of the others, and that he went to such extreme lengths to get a date with her. She agrees to go out with him. She also goes to the Partridge Family's next concert. However, her date with Keith clearly doesn't go very well, because she dumps him afterwards.
