The Partridge Family Wikia

Darby Willis is the coach of the Dodgers, a Little League team. He has a reputation for producing winning teams. He's also a college friend of Reuben Kincaid. When Danny Partridge tries out for the team, he turns out to have a talent for pitching. Darby, who is obsessed with winning, declares Danny his star player and puts pressure on him to win every game. Danny grows to really enjoy baseball, but soon the pressure gets to be too much for him and he loses interest in the sport. He complains of a sore arm and says he won't be able to play in the big game tomorrow. Shirley Partridge has a talk with Darby and tells him that he's putting too much pressure on the kids and that they should be able to enjoy playing even when they lose. Darby takes her words to heart, and during his next pep talk, he tells the kids that the most important thing is having fun. Danny recovers from his sore arm, and his team wins the big game. Shirley presents the first place trophy to Darby, after which the Partridge Family gives a concert for the Dodgers and their families.
