On the series[]

The Partridge Family is booked to perform at a hotel owned by Mr. Tubbles. Danny Partridge wants to drop out of school and be a songwriter, so Shirley Partridge introduces him to Mr. Tubbles, who she hopes will tell him about the importance of education. Mr. Tubbles, not realizing that he's supposed to be setting an example, tells Danny that he never got past sixth grade. Danny is now even more convinced that he made the right choice by dropping out. A few days later, after he fails to get a high-paying job, he calls Mr. Tubbles and asks to meet him to discuss his career. Mr. Tubbles agrees. This time he tells Danny that he regrets leaving school and that he wouldn't hire someone without an education. Danny agrees to return to school.
